Product Questions
Turmeric Oil is typically the highly concentrated essential oil extracted from the turcuma longa root (rhizome) through steam distillation.
Key Difference: While turmeric powder is rich in the yellow pigment compound Curcumin (known for internal health benefits), turmeric essential oil contains high levels of Turmerone compounds (like ar-Turmerone). These Turmerones are better for topical applications, providing strong antioxidant, soothing, and skin-rejuvenating effects.
Turmeric Oil is a powerhouse for skincare, often used to promote a brighter, more even complexion.
Its primary skin benefits include:
Brightening & Evening Skin Tone: It helps reduce the appearance of dark spots and hyperpigmentation, giving your skin a natural glow.
Soothing Redness: Its powerful anti-inflammatory properties can calm irritated skin and reduce temporary redness.
Fighting Blemishes: Due to its antimicrobial nature, it can help manage and reduce the look of acne and breakouts.
Anti-Aging Support: Its high antioxidant content helps protect the skin from environmental damage, reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
Yes, it is widely used for topical relief. The anti-inflammatory compounds within Turmeric Oil, like the Turmerones, are known for their soothing and analgesic (pain-relieving) properties.
How to Use: When diluted with a carrier oil (like coconut or almond oil), it can be massaged into sore muscles or achy joints to provide a comforting, warming sensation and help ease inflammation.
Turmeric essential oil should always be diluted before topical application. As a highly concentrated essential oil, applying it "neat" (undiluted) can cause skin irritation or sensitivity, especially on facial or sensitive areas.
Safe Dilution Tip: A general safe dilution for adults is 1-2% concentration. This translates to about 6 to 12 drops of turmeric essential oil per one ounce (30ml) of a carrier oil (like Jojoba, Rosehip, or Fractionated Coconut Oil).
Pure Turmeric Essential Oil, when properly diluted, typically does not leave a heavy yellow stain. However, any product containing the raw, pigmented root extract or a very high concentration of essential oil might leave a temporary yellowish tint on light skin or fabrics.
To Avoid Staining: Always dilute the oil correctly, use only a few drops, and consider a patch test before applying it to large areas or before bedtime, especially if using a pure essential oil.
It is generally not recommended to ingest turmeric essential oil. Essential oils are extremely concentrated and potent.
The Safest Option: For internal health benefits, such as reducing inflammation or supporting digestion, it is best to use food-grade turmeric powder (spice), liquid extracts, or Curcumin supplements, which are specifically formulated and regulated for consumption. Always consult a healthcare professional before ingesting any essential oil.
Turmeric Oil, like most essential oils, should be stored properly to maintain its therapeutic quality and shelf life.
Storage Essentials:
Keep it in its original dark glass bottle (amber or cobalt blue) to protect it from light.
Store it in a cool, dark place away from direct sunlight, heat, and humidity.
Ensure the cap is tightly sealed when not in use. Proper storage can help the oil retain its potency for up to two years or more.
Yes, Turmeric Oil is excellent for supporting a healthy scalp environment.
Soothes the Scalp: Its anti-inflammatory properties can help calm an irritated or itchy scalp.
Fights Dandruff: Its antifungal and antimicrobial qualities may help reduce the presence of dandruff-causing yeast.
Promotes Healthy Hair: By soothing the scalp and reducing inflammation, it creates a better environment for hair follicles, which can support healthier, stronger-looking hair.
Application Idea: Add a few drops to your favorite shampoo, conditioner, or a weekly warm oil scalp treatment.
Absolutely, Turmeric Oil is a grounding and uplifting oil for aromatherapy. Its aroma is described as warm, spicy, and earthy.
Aromatherapy Benefits: Diffusing the oil can help:
Promote feelings of emotional balance and calm.
Create a grounding and relaxing atmosphere.
Add a warm, unique scent to your home or office.
Quality matters significantly when choosing essential oils. To ensure you're getting the best product:
Look for 100% Pure Essential Oil: The label should clearly state Turmeric Essential Oil with the botanical name Curcuma longa.
Check the Extraction Method: High-quality oils are typically extracted via steam distillation.
Seek Reputable Brands: Choose brands that provide transparency about their sourcing and testing (like GC/MS reports, which verify the oil's purity).
Packaging: It should always be sold in a dark glass bottle to prevent degradation from light.
