Citronella oil is an essential oil made from the steam distillation of dry citronella grass. It is yellow-brown, mobile liquid with fresh, powerful and lemony scent. Like many other essential oils, citronella oil also has certain benefits and has been used to treat rashes, infections, and other health conditions. It is used in Chinese traditional medicine for rheumatic pain. Citronella essential oil is considered a top note when used in aromatherapy blends.

Lemon oil, Bergamot oil, Geranium oil, Clary sage oil, Cedar wood oil, and Lavender oil

  • To create a massage oil Dilute citronella oil in a carrier oil, like jojoba oil or oil. Adding fifteen drops of oil per ounce of carrier oil for a 2.5% dilution for sensitive skin, you'll need to use a 1 % (Six drops per ounce of carrier oil).
  • A Spray application is also great for freshening up a space or applying to your skin as associate repellent. Add citronella oil to water in an exceedingly glass spray bottle ten to fifteen drops per ounce of water. Essential oils don’t dissolve in water. Take into account adding a dispersing agent. Shake the bottle well before spraying.
  • A diffuser is often used to disperse a scent through a space. Just like the spray application, you can use diffuser to repel insects or add a nice fragrance to a space.
  • Citronella oil is one of the most effective insects repellent.
  • It prevents dryness, flaking, frizzy mess, and dandruff when applied to the scalp.
  • If used in aromatherapy, citronella oil helps prevent or treat several common health conditions, including anxiety, colds, depression, difficulty urinating, flu, menstrual cramps, muscle spasms, stomach ache.
  • Citronella oil is used as a deworming agent to treat parasitic infections and relieve diarrhea. However, it is important to note that it also carries a risk of toxicity.
  • It maintains the water balance in our body and helps reduce spasms or cramping of stomach muscles.
  • Citronella oil can cause skin irritation or allergy. Also, the area becomes red, blotchy, itchy, or sometimes swollen.
  • Pregnant women and children should consult doctor before using essential oils.
  • You can take a test by applying some dilute citronella oil to a small area of your skin. If your skin reacts, then you can avoid using citronella oil.
