History of Candelilla wax The Candelilla (Euphorbia Cerifera) is a shrub native to Mexico and the southwestern United States. It’s small, a yellow-brown colour, and aromatic. Traditionally, Candelilla wax was used to make candles beginning in the 20th century. With the coming of World War I, demand increased as this wax was used for waterproofing equipment. This wax acts as an excellent emulsifier which prevents oil and water from separating to maintain proper consistency. It has an abundance of nutrients and is an excellent barrier to moisture loss. It is a product found in many cosmetics because of its ability to stiffen texture without hardening.

Young Chemist only sells the finest quality ingredients and our Candelilla wax is no different. All of our products are custom tested by a team of experts that are industrialists with the knowledge and experience to ensure quality and consistency that is unmatched in our opinion.

Candelilla Wax is a premium plant-based wax extracted from the leaves of the Candelilla shrub, prized for its smooth texture, glossy finish, and exceptional versatility. Known as a vegan alternative to beeswax, Candelilla Wax is widely used in daily skincare and cosmetic formulations due to its ability to stabilize, thicken, and add a silky feel to products. Its lightweight nature makes it perfect for people looking for a non-greasy, fast-absorbing wax that still provides protective and moisturizing benefits.

This classic ingredient fits beautifully into routine life, enriching products like lip balms, lotions, creams, salves, butters, polishes, and vegan cosmetics. Its natural emollient properties help soften dry skin while forming a breathable barrier that locks in hydration. Candelilla Wax also enhances spreadability and gives products a smooth, elegant finish. With a naturally high melting point and excellent binding abilities, it is ideal for crafting long-lasting skincare solutions and DIY creations.

  • Candelilla produces excellent gloss and structure and is ideal for finished products, where firm consistency and high melt point are important.
  • Commonly used in lipsticks, lip gloss, candles, emulsions, and other cosmetic products to add hardness to them.
  • Candelilla also has water-repellent and film-forming properties.
  • Candelilla wax also makes an excellent vegan alternative to beeswax - As it is denser than beeswax, it is recommended to adjust your DIY recipes if you wish to use it as a substitute (approximately half the amount is recommended).

Melt Candelilla Wax gently in a double boiler and blend it with carrier oils, butters, or essential oils to create vegan balms, lotions, salves, lip products, and creams. Use it in DIY skincare as a natural thickener and stabilizer for formulations that need structure and shine. Due to its higher melting point, use smaller quantities compared to beeswax for a smooth texture. Apply finished products to dry areas like lips, elbows, knees, and hands for deep hydration. Candelilla Wax is also excellent for crafting vegan candles and polishes. Use regularly for soft, protected, and nourished skin.
